Emergency passport

The Diplomatic Missions and Consular Offices of the Republic of Paraguay may grant the Emergency Passport, with prior authorization from the Directorate of Passports and Consular Services, to Paraguayan nationals who are without passports as a result of their destruction, uselessness, loss or theft and need continue travel to a third State or in those cases in which the foreign immigration authorities do not recognize the Provisional Passport.

Exceptionally, when the urgency of the case requires, the Head of the Diplomatic Mission or Consular Office, under his responsibility, may issue the aforementioned document of which he must immediately inform the Directorate of Passports and Consular Services, indicating the reason for the exceptionality. .

The requirements for the issuance of these documents are the same as those required for the issuance of Consular Passports. Its validity may be up to 1 (one) year and may be filled manually.

The Directorate of Passports and Consular Services may issue Emergency Passports, exceptionally, for humanitarian reasons and in favor of the children of a Paraguayan mother or father born abroad, when they are in the national territory and have not been able to complete the procedures necessary to obtain nationality.

In the case of minor children, they must have the authorization of the mother and father, and it will be necessary for the minor to have been issued the Provisional or Emergency Passport, with which he entered the territory of the Republic.

Based on the local laws of the Republic of Paraguay, citizens who have an emergency passport may travel normally (not only to return to Paraguay) during the period that the aforementioned passport lasts, which may not exceed six months.
